Drew Hayden Taylor
My responsibility as a Frist Nations writer is to 1) bridge the distance between the two cultures. I prefer to do it through humour. 2) Continue the Indigenous tradition of story telling but expanding it to include all the new mediums introduced to our culture. 3) To explore , celebrate, educate and illuminate the many different and special aspects of Aboriginal culture. 4) And to broaden the perspectives of what is considered “Native literature.” That is why I have written a Native Vampire novel, and a collection of Native science fiction short stories.
Originally from the Curve Lake First Nations, in Central Ontario, Drew has spent the last two decades travelling the world and writing about it from the Aboriginal perspective. An award-winning playwright, author, columnist, film maker and lecturer, he has managed to bridge the gap between cultures by tickling the funny bone.
